27 New Nominations for the Pro Futura Scientia Programme

Thirteen universities in five countries have nominated a total of 27 candidates to the twelfth round
of the Pro Futura Scientia Programme. The nominees - nine women and eighteen men - represent
a wide range of subjects within the social and human sciences and are affiliated to around 20 univer-
sities/research institutes/organizations in several countries. Nominations have been received not only
by eight Swedish universities, but also from the Universities of Cambridge, Copenhagen, Helsinki,
Oslo, and Åbo Akademi.

The Pro Futura Scientia Programme for early career scholars was set up by the Swedish Collegium
for Advanced Study (SCAS) and Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (the Swedish Foundation for Humanities
and Social Sciences; RJ) in 1999. The programme aims at providing optimal conditions for promising
scholars in the humanities and social sciences and to give them the chance to pursue curiosity-driven
research. The programme provides an attractive career path, and those researchers who have attended
the programme in the past have come to play an increasingly important role in the Swedish university
and research system.

After an extensive selection procedure during the next months, some 15 per cent of the nominees will
eventually be admitted to the programme. The final decision regarding the appointment of the Pro Futura
XII Fellows is expected to be made in the early summer of 2017.
